Untreated wastewater from villages along the Ganga can flow into local drains, ponds, and rivers, contributing to water pollution and environmental degradation. Many villages lack appropriate wastewater management systems, while a one-size-fits-all approach is often unsuitable for diverse village conditions. A decentralised, source-oriented approach is needed to manage wastewater close to where it is generated, reducing pollution before it reaches the Ganga and protecting community health and local water resources.
