About this Project

Why it is needed

Millions in rural communities face severe health risks and economic hardship due to contaminated, dried-up, or unreliable water sources. Women and children bear the heavy burden of fetching water daily, while local villages lack the technical training and infrastructure to manage their water assets independently.

What gets done

We deliver end-to-end drinking water reliability for community water supply systems - seamlessly managing every link from source to tap and community O&M. We construct and rehabilitate robust water infrastructure, including hydrogeologically mapped borewells, restored open wells, supply pipelines, storage reservoirs, and chlorination units.

To guarantee long-term sustainability, we train local Village Water and Sanitation Committees (VWSCs) and grassroots technicians to handle daily operations, maintenance, and water quality testing independently.

Provide "Safely Managed" drinking water to all households through:

Improved water sources:

• Drilled new borewell, scientifically identified through vertical electrical sounding

• Renovated open wells by removing silt, deepening it, and protecting the well by providing a platform, parapet wall, and top cover

• Laid pipelines and constructed Ground Level Reservoirs and Mini Water tanks for water storage

• Provided inline chlorination of 25 lakh liters life with water meter for monitoring life of cartridge to ensure safe water quality

• Provided community stand posts to reduce the burden of fetching water

• Where household taps already existed, reliable water supply is restored

Water Governance:

• Formed Village Water Sanitation Committee (VWSC) in the village

• Provided training on water quality awareness and testing to VWSC and community members

• Assets handed over to Panchayat for regular operations and repairs at own cost

Community ownership:

• Trained plumbers and electricians in the villages to take care of the system

• Foster community ownership of water resources through video shows, street plays, wall paintings, and events celebrating significant days, e.g., world water day

• Setup a community contribution account in post office ranging from ₹ 20-50 for carrying out minor repairs in the system

What your funding changes

Your investment transforms a vulnerable village from water scarcity to long-term self-reliance, delivering safe, continuous drinking water right to their doorstep. It converts one-off infrastructure into a permanent, community-owned asset that protects health, restores dignity, free-up time for other economic activities and runs sustainably for generations.
